We Build to Last
A History of Foulger-Pratt

Foulger-Pratt was founded as Foulger and Company in 1963 by Sid Foulger, who had previously served as director of design and construction for a major national hotel group and as an engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Foulger was an adept and forward-thinking engineering and construction specialist with diverse experience and a desire to capitalize on the Washington region’s burgeoning public- and private-sector growth.

Landmark Projects

In its earliest years, as Foulger and Company, the organization completed a number of development and construction projects in the Northern Virginia suburbs. These included the Computer Sciences Corporation building and a Lord & Taylor department store in Falls Church, and the Hospitality Inn in Crystal City. Foulger and Company was also soon tapped to build thousands of apartments through U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs, as well as a number of hotels and office buildings.

In the early 1970s, the firm won one of its largest construction contracts to date: the Washington, D.C. Temple, one of the region’s most prominent landmarks. In 1980, the firm also completed the Crossroads Plaza in downtown Salt Lake City, a $46-million, 2.2-million-square-foot regional shopping mall and office complex.

Through the years, the firm succeeded in developing and building many additional high-profile projects in the region, including the Bell Atlantic headquarters in Arlington, Virginia; the Landmark Shopping Center in Alexandria, Virginia; the Main Street Center office building in Richmond, Virginia; and numerous commercial, retail, residential, hospitality, healthcare, and institutional facilities. More recent projects include Silver Spring Metro Center, Rockville Metro Center I, Blackwell I and II, and the new Inova Loudoun Medical Office Building.

Diversified Expertise

Foulger-Pratt has taken a leading role in ambitious community revitalization and rebuilding initiatives through the years, involving a carefully crafted approach to development and construction sequencing. The firm’s recent revitalization work in downtown Silver Spring exemplifies this comprehensive approach to the business of real estate—along with a commitment to supporting the regeneration of the area’s aging communities. In Silver Spring, Foulger-Pratt has played a leading role in the community’s ongoing urban redevelopment—developing and constructing a dynamic retail core along with premium office, hotel, and multifamily residential space.

Today, Foulger-Pratt is one of the Washington region’s most active and experienced real estate firms, with a host of awards and acclaim for its many development and construction projects. The firm continues to be a family-owned and managed organization, with a strong commitment to community outreach and support.
